An incredible day celebrating our new Limited Release Rum Cask whisky!
On Saturday, coinciding with the opening of the cray fishing season on the east coast of Tasmania, we hosted a private event with friends & family in the most Waubs Harbour way we know how.. A cray fishing comp followed by a long-table cray bake dinner.
7AM: CRAY FISHING COMPETITION
Tim, Rob and some of our fellow cray-loving locals gathered outside the distillery, ready to head out and check their pots that they’d set the night before.
The Rum Cask flag was up and they were off! The stakes? Pride & a bottle of Rum Cask whisky for the biggest catch of the day…
Success! There was colour in the pot and some very happy contenders. Once all pots were checked, the crayfish headed straight up to the distillery, ready to be weighed and prepared for our long-table cray bake dinner later that night..
5PM: RUM CASK WHISKY LAUNCH DINNER
To officially launch our new Limited Release Rum Cask whisky, and as a reward for the morning’s cray competition efforts (see post 1 of 2), we hosted a long-table cray bake dinner and a tasting of our new whisky with some of our friends & family.
An incredible feast of the crayfish that had been caught that morning, flavoursome lamb from our local farmer, and an array of delicious sides made of local produce.
Rob treated us to a tasting of our new Rum Cask whisky and we celebrated the years of hard work that have gone into making this special single malt whisky.
Earlier that morning, we held a cray fishing competition with the prize being a bottle of our new Rum Cask whisky. And the winner is... Bicheno local, Mat, weighing in at 2.28kg! Co-founder Tim’s catch was declared equal first but this time, we’ll let it slide ;)
The perfect day celebrating this special Limited Release whisky with some of our friends & family in true Bicheno style. Well cheers to that!

A guided tasting of our recently released whiskies, with an insight into who we are & why we do what we do, set in our ocean-view Tasting Room. $40.
Our salt battered distillery, once an old oyster hatchery, sits on the edge of the ocean in the old fishing town of Bicheno, on the east coast of Tasmania. We were listed as one of Turo's top places to visit in Tasmania and would love to host you at our distillery.
